Body Of Water Affected Title Description

Vermilion River

Posted 04/14/2009
Dangerous Conditions on the Middle Fork River (Vermilion County) Conservation Police Region 3 Commander Captain Duane Pitchford, Conservation Officer Dallas
Bowman and Vermilion County Emergency Management Coordinator Ted Fisher reported that surface
boils, hydraulics, strainers, submerged debris, and low water temperatures, combined with sharp turns
in the course of the river, from the north boundary of the Middle Fork Fish and Wildlife Area to the
south boundary of Kickapoo State Park have created conditions that are significantly hazardous to
boaters. The conditions also make it treacherous for safety personnel who are called to respond to and
rescue persons involved in boating mishaps. Department of Natural Resources Regional Land
Manager James Capel, Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn and Conservation District Director
Konsis concur with the assessment.
