Re: GPS File of Put-Ins

All righty, GPX file support just added in! I don't have a GPS unit to test this out on but they're working in Google Earth when you open a file and choose filetype of "GPS (*.gpx, *.loc)".

Re: GPS File of Put-Ins

Hi Tony, I just got KML file generation of put-ins released onto the site. Check out any river/lake's put-ins and you'll see a link for the KML file just under the listing for videos, dams, etc... Give it a try and let me know how it works for you. You can either save the file or open it up in Go...

Re: GPS File of Put-Ins

Hi Tony, Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if GPS units accept KML files? I got KML file generation working a while ago but never released it (it opens up OK in Google Earth). I just cleaned it up and with a little more work I can probably release it. I could probably also get a GPX versio...

Fishnet Rapids - Isle de la Cache to Division St.

Below is an excellent trip report from paddler Mark L. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last year around September I took the Des Plaines River trip from Isle de la Cache to Division St. It was a very nice and surprisingly scenic trip through what I thought...

Re: How do you move your kayak?

I put the kayak on the roof rack and try and unload as close to the water as possible. I'm using the factory rack with factory cross bars on a Toyota mini-van and it has held up fine so far (since 2006). I padded the cross bars and throw the kayak directly on them upside down and then I use a coup...

Re: Open Pool at The Lattof YMCA

They have both an open pool session and a class going on led by Dan Leigh. I haven't been there since last year so you may want to call Dan Leigh to confirm (Dan Leigh 847-392-8190)

Re: Chain O' Lakes

Yes, apparently you do need a Fox Waterway sticker, here is what I found on CASKA message board regarding this: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caska/message/5908 "To summarize, if you are paddling anywhere between the WI/IL state line and the Algonquin dam, you must have a Fox Wa...

2009 New Years Day Paddle - N. Branch Chicago River

This was a fantastic paddle despite the cold and wind. This stretch of river was fairly isolated and twisted and turned through forest preserves, with only a few large houses to be seen. We passed under many old interesting bridges and a even a wooden rail road trestle. Due to the recent melt of...
