This put-in will start you out in a urban greenway with wildlife and forested banks. If you head downstream the river transforms into an industrial and then commercial metropolis with towering skyscrapers and an amazing skyline. Passing under many old and new bridges you'll experience a Chicago like you've never seen before.

Located at 3400 Rockwell St. on east side of the river, south of Addison across from Devry parking lot.

Richard J. Daley Boat Launch

Excellent boat launch with a large parking lot off of Western Ave. To access you must be headed North bound on Western and veer way over to the left to what is almost like a frontage road running parallel to Western but not going over the bridge.

It seems at the moment there is no parking or launching fee but a machine installed near the launch is clear designed to impose fees at some point.

This launch maybe the one that is described by a current post as the "Chicago River Boat Ramp". However, if it is than both the name and location of the previous entry are incorrect.

This put-in is located on the topmost section of the industrial Goose Island on the east side of the north branch canal, just south of North Ave (64). Entering the river here will allow you to take in Chicago's wonderful industry and skyscrapers. Check out the Goose Island link above for the history regarding this industrial island.

Important Note!: this put-in may be unusable due to a 3-4 foot high steel wall above the water depending on water levels so be prepared to put-in elsewhere.

*** 7/4/2012 : Eric M. informs us that the boat launch is usable but there is a 200 yard carry to get your boat to the water (although with current construction underway you may be able to drive your car right up to the launch). Note the location of this put-in has moved north of 18th street.

The launch appears to consist of cement steps that drop right down into the river.

Here are some details on this new launch site, the yellow arrow is where Eric M. unloaded his boats:
Detailed Map and Photo of launch

*** 7/1/2010: Steve S. informs us that the boat dock that is used at this put-in for the Chicago Flatwater Classic is apparently taken down after the race leaving only a high sea wall that makes this put-in unusable.

Located in Chinatown at 300 West 19th Street. For trips ending here you will see towering buildings, old bridges, the beautiful Chicago skyline, the industrial corridor surrounding Goose Island as well as wooded river banks near Clark Park.

This is also the end point for the 2007 Chicago River Flatwater Classic starting at Clark Park for a 7 1/4 mile race.
