I used this put in as a kid some 30 years ago. Now the Burr Ridge Park District was kind enough to build me a Real Boat Ramp. Not that any powerboat captain with a lick of sence would use this shallow strech of river.

Put in:
Frontage road (W 9th St) on the west side of the Des Plaines River off of the Route 7 bridge (aka 9th St bridge). There are signs saying this is private property of the Metro Water Reclamation Service, but the first time I was walking my yak back to the put-in, a police car pulled up and the officer was very friendly and said that I am fine as long as the MWRS people don't catch me. I don't think there is any good parking here I generally do a self shuttle w/ my car and bike.

Take out:
W Division St about a mile or so down river, just south of the Lockport Prairie Nature Preserve.

From the Will County FP District:

"McKinley Woods is the only place in Will County where you will find a combination of bluffs, deep ravines, and forest. These picturesque features were formed by a moraine - an accumulation of boulders, stones, and other debris carried and deposited by a glacier.

Among the preserve's natural wonders are brilliant spring wildflowers and redbud trees, which throughout Will County are found growing naturally only in McKinley Woods.

After an afternoon of hiking, biking, or canoeing, visitors to this preserve can tent camp in the family camping area, complete with fire rings and picnic tables."
