| Coming soon to an abandoned quarry near you:
"A portion of the site is still under development and will include a fishing lake, boating, and biking trails. Located in the City of Naperville, the preserve contains a scenic wetland, large oak-savanna grove, and the 80-acre Whalon Lake...
In 2008, phase two of the Whalon Lake improvements should be completed. This will include an 80-acre fishing and boating lake, created from an abandoned quarry. Water from the DuPage River and from rainfall is being used to fill the quarry, after which aquatic plants and forage items will be introduced. Gamefish, including largmouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish, will be stocked in the lake.
Boat launches will be provided for small watercraft, including fishing boats (trolling motors only), canoes, and kayaks."
Whalon Lake is located on Royce Road, west of Route 53 in Naperville.
