I've used this put-in on several occasions in November. Plenty of parking, no hassle in the fall. There is a sign on the road to the beach regarding no launching or take out for boats. Not clear what that means for kayaks/canoes. I would call the local authorities before I go there during the season.

This parking lot is across the road from Indian Dunes National Lakeshore beach with access to Lake Michigan. It gets crowded during the season as is the public National Lakeshore parking lot. Parking at the Indiana Dunes train station is available but is somewhat far. Drop off the boats and bring rollerblades.

Great put in - sandy beach. You'll need a cart if you have a heavy Kayak - but the paddle was awesome out there.

Located between the Adler Planetarium and the former Meigs field (now Northerly Island Park). You can park in metered spots on the street leading to the planetarium or in the adjacent pay lot.

Note that there is a submerged steel wall as you leave the beach cove -it is easily seen in the satellite map of the area. CASKA member Kristin Flynte gives the following advice about it in her CASKA blog report:

"Keep an eye out for the shallowly submerged steel wall not far off 12St. Beach. If you look carefully you'll see the wall on the left side running north and south(towards the planetarium) , it extends into the water at just-below-surface height. If there are any waves and you are over this wall in a trough, you might hit it. Best clearance advise is to launch towards the south end of beach and head straight east, you'll likely see the wall as you pass over it."

Although the fenced in boat launch is now closed due to low water levels you can still launch in the small area of beach that has been uncovered due to the low water levels. If needed, you can also launch from the adjacent doggie beach, although you'll have to lift your boat over the fence enclosing this area.
